Scholarships:
Give the Gift of Knowledge
You can make a world of difference. Contribute to a Suffolk Community College Foundation scholarship. When you contribute to a scholarship, your philanthropic dollars go further because they are leveraged by the contributions of others. You benefit from the Suffolk Community College Foundation’s knowledge of effective strategies and of our community, and can give with the confidence that your gift will make a real difference.
Giving to an established scholarship program is the most flexible way to give. The Suffolk Community College Foundation administers several scholarship funds that are open to all types of students – from high school seniors and current college students, to returning students and non-traditional students. View a list of our current scholarships to which you can contribute.
Your gift will be directed to a qualified recipient who demonstrates the greatest financial need, outstanding community involvement or academic promise. Suffolk Community College Foundation Scholarship Committees review eligibility and selection criteria, so you may trust that your gift will always be put to its best use.
If you’re passionate about an area of study or group of students and cannot find a targeted fund that is a good fit, you may consider establishing a scholarship. Scholarships can be named as a tribute to individuals, organizations, or social causes; in memory of family members, friends or mentors; to recognize friends; or to acknowledge significant milestones in someone’s life: graduations, anniversaries, significant achievements, etc.
TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS
ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS
An endowed scholarship provides a permanent and personal way for you to make a difference in the life of a Suffolk County Community College student. You can permanently designate and name an Endowed Scholarship. The principle of the scholarship fund is invested to produce income. Interest accrued is the awarded annually to student who meet scholarship criteria.
Renewable and consistent scholarships tend to meet the needs of students better than one-time or variable awards. They allow students and their families to develop financial plans and also provide incentive for students to maintain the eligibility goals set forth by a particular scholarship. Therefore, we encourage donors to establish renewable awards that provide for student to completion of their degree.
ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS
You can create an Annual Scholarship by making a yearly renewable committment. The scholarship is named according to your wishes and awarded each year to qualifying students. The gift does not accrue interest and can only be awarded based upon the available balance. For example, an annual scholarship with a gift of $1,000 per year could provide up to $1,000 in assistance per year.
