Board of Directors Memorial

Eric S. Martinez '86

Eric Scott Martinez was born on December 16, 1966 to Alfred and Georgene Martinez. He had three older siblings, Richard, Lauren and Paul, and one younger sister, Christine. Eric grew up in East Setauket, New York, where he attended Ward Melville High School.

Eric began his college education at Suffolk County Community College. After earning his Associates degree, Eric was accepted to Hofstra University. At Hofstra, Eric received both his Bachelor’s and his Juris Doctor degree. In addition to a Doctor of Jurisprudence, Eric was also a Certified Public Accountant.

Eric welcomed his first child, Miranda Emily, in September of 2000. He later welcomed two more children, Emma Autumn and Brandon Cole, in November 2002 and January 2007, respectively. Eric loved being a father.

In his spare time, Eric enjoyed being outdoors. An avid biker, family vacations often centered on locations in which Eric could ride in a race. Additionally, he enjoyed visiting National Parks. His favorite park was Yosemite National Park in California. The simplicity found in nature represented everything Eric loved. He was a selfless man, constantly providing or striving to help.

Eric was a jovial and diplomatic man who possessed the ability to sincerely connect with almost anyone he encountered. His laugh was infectious. The community suffered a great loss when Eric left this Earth. He will be greatly missed.

President Shaun L. McKay expressed:

"Eric possessed many talents. He was a bright businessman who was gifted at fostering relationships, and capable of bringing laughter into a room.

Eric shared his professional expertise as Treasurer on our Foundation Board of Directors, was a generous donor to his alma mater, and shared his stories and experiences with our students. He had the ability to draw people to him and make them feel comfortable. When he engaged you in conversation, he made you believe you were a friend of long standing or a member of his family.

Eric will always be a formidable force that will continue to impact those he has touched and guided, whether through his place of work, his volunteerism, or even by his smile or through a simple note. Eric was a good man with a kind soul who loved his family and was proud of his association with the College and its Foundation."
