Marking the Passing of Professor Emeritus John Hamilton
|
It is with great sadness that I share news regarding the recent passing of our colleague, Professor Emeritus John Hamilton (Economics). A longtime resident of Stony Brook, John passed away on Friday, January 20th. He was the beloved husband of the late Morine McMackin Hamilton, and the loving father of sons John and Patrick.
John Hamilton had a long and distinguished career at Suffolk County Community College. He joined the college on September 1, 1974, teaching economics on the Ammerman Campus. Throughout his career, John’s many contributions served to enrich the lives of our students and advance the development of the college. A founding member of the Suffolk Community College Foundation, Professor Hamilton was a dedicated member of its Board of Directors from its earliest, formative years. As Foundation Treasurer, he was instrumental in creating the Foundation’s bylaws and other establishing documents. He also guided the development of its investment strategy, positioning the Foundation well for its growth during the decades thereafter. John was also active in campus governance, and was a guiding force in the establishment and development of the Honors program at the college.
