Room 112- Ammerman Library
On August 21, 2017 there will be a total eclipse of the Sun that is only viewable from certain locations within the United States. While Long Island is not one of the places that will be able to see the Sun get completely blocked out by the Moon, local observers are still preparing for an impressive astronomical event. In this presentation, Astronomy professor Matthew Pappas will discuss all matters relating to solar eclipses including why solar eclipses are rare to see, what Long Islanders can expect to see from their own backyards this summer and the best places in the US to see the Great American eclipse. Proper viewing tips will be shared and attendees will receive a free pair of solar eclipse viewing glasses (supplies limited).
