Subject:          Out of the Darkness Campus Walk

I am pleased to share with you that the College will be hosting an Out of the Darkness Campus Walk on Sunday, April 23rd from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on the Ammerman Campus in Selden.  This event, which seeks to increase awareness about suicide and raise funds to fight it, will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). 

Join a quarter of a million people from hundreds of cities across all 50 states to raise awareness and funds that will save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. This will be the first Out of the Darkness walk to take place at a college on Long Island.  We thank Ammerman Campus student, Anne Deubel, for proposing this event idea.  Anne, working  closely with Sarah Boles, Faculty Coordinator for Mental Health Services, has been able to initiate the planning necessary to introduce a local Long Island walk on a Suffolk campus.  

When someone participates in the Out of the Darkness Campus Walk, they join the effort with thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.  We are looking for supporters in the college community who understand the growing concern about suicidal behavior and are willing to do something to bolster efforts to prevent suicide.
