The Spirit of Success Faculty & Staff Campaign

Inspire through Philanthropy

Faculty and staff give more than their intelligence, dedication and time to ensure Suffolk continues as a premier community college committed to excellence. These faculty and staff are inspiring others through their philanthropy and support of the College’s mission. There has never been a better time to transform lives, provide access to higher education and empower your colleagues to join you in helping today’s students.

Invest in Suffolk County Community College

Consider making a gift to the Suffolk Community College Foundation this year. It provides yet another way to support the students we are privileged to educate.  The Spirit of Success Campaign celebrates the many successes we have realized in 2015 including stellar performance on the accreditation process where Suffolk was recognized as a national leader in performance and planning; the welcoming of more than 50 new faculty, administrators and support staff; a record breaking commencement and promising start to the Fall 2015 semester at all three campuses of New York’s largest and most comprehensive community college.

Why I Give

“I support the mission of Suffolk County Community College each day through my professional endeavors to advance the College in our local and national media. I make gifts through payroll deduction because my family and I know that Suffolk is a place that transforms lives and we are proud to be a part of that success.”
-Drew Biondo, College Communications Director

“As a proud alum of Suffolk County Community College, staff support employee and parent, I know that not every student has the financial support that I was fortunate to be able to give to my child. I hope my few dollars each payroll will help support our college wide scholarship endeavors and make a difference in our students educational and lifetime goals so they also can achieve to have their dreams come true.”
- Mary Ann De Costanzo, ’73, Office of Campus Activities & Student Leadership, Michael J. Grant Campus (ret.)

“Those of us who work at the college, are alumni or retirees from Suffolk, know the value the college brings to the local community, the state and the country at large. As one who has spent the majority of his adult life connected to this place as a student, faculty member for 37.5 years, and now a proud retiree, I’ve witnessed Suffolk’s growth on many fronts. We have a national reputation for scholarship and students prepared for the ever changing new economy. This new economy has also produced financial challenges for many of our students. Were it not for Suffolk County Community College’s Foundation, whose primary charge is to provide scholarships, for many, the goal of a college education would not be realized. The student demographic has changed. Most are working and quite a few have family responsibilities, stretching those dollars. I’m fortunate enough to be a donor. The Foundation has come a long way, but still needs help to solidify its goals. If you’re a Suffolk employee, you’re also fortunate enough to give at least something. Please consider doing so. Your gift will provide a lift to someone who can, with a college degree, become a more productive and employable citizen. Since the vast majority of Suffolk graduates remain on Long Island, it’s good for the economy. In addition we’ll produce a more informed citizenry. It’s time to give back. There’s no time like the present. Please give what you can, you won’t regret it.”
-John Burgess, ‘70

FAQs

What is the Faculty and Staff Campaign?
It is a campus-wide initiative that accommodates the generosity of our faculty and staff in fostering student success through support of the Suffolk Community College Foundation. Your donations to the Foundation are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Can I designate where I want my donation to go?
Absolutely! You decide where to give your support and can designate it to a particular scholarship, program or department. Or, you can make your donation in unrestricted funds which will be used in the area of greatest need. For a list of scholarships, please click here (include link to scholarship information).

Why should I give, and how much should I give?
We ask you to give because we believe that our College and our mission to foster student success are worth the investment. Faculty and Staff giving shows alumni, parents, and members of the community that we are committed to supporting our students and programs beyond what we do in our official capacity here at the College.

Many external funding partners like foundations, corporations and individuals inquire about the percentage of faculty and staff who support the institution through philanthropic gifts. These organizations are more likely to support the College based upon the enthusiastic support of our faculty and staff. It is important to note that 100% of the College’s senior leaders donate to the Foundation, designating gifts for scholarships, academic programs and student services.

What are my payment options?
You may give cash, check, credit card, or payroll deduction. If you give by payroll deduction, the minimum is $5.00 per paycheck, and payments will begin within two pay cycles of when you submit your request.

If I signed up for payroll deduction last year, will it automatically renew?
Yes. Payroll deduction continues at the amount set to the funds selected until you authorize the Suffolk Community College Foundation, by written notice or via email, to make any changes. We encourage you to increase your generous support through payroll deduction annually.

I have additional questions, who can I contact?
Please contact Christopher Williams, Esq. at the Foundation by phone at 631-451-4551 or via email at williach@sunysuffolk.edu. Chris can also counsel you on ways to support the College through Planned Giving. Click here for more information.
